About the song

This sampling number was produced by Christian Ide Hintze, the Viennese poet, action artist, performance and multimedia poet who Falco met in 1989. Hintze is the founder of the School of Poetry, an institution where Falco also gave lectures a few years later and for whose help he co-organized a benefit concert in 1995.

The recordings of Falco’s voice were made as part of a speaking rehearsal that Falco carried out with Hintze in January 1995 at the Loipersdorf thermal baths. Hintze later mixed music into this song.

Like all of the Hintze sampling songs, little happens musically; a drum machine drives the number forward, a reduced synthesizer melody and subtle male choirs only minimally complement the sound.

Numerous samples from performances, lectures and recordings for the Schule der Dichtung are mixed to the music, including recordings by Allen Ginsberg (1993), Nick Cave (1998) and Falco, who quotes the poem “Requiem Viennense” from 1974. by H.C. Artmann and Gerhard Rühm.

The song was released on the 2002 album “Viva La Poesia”.

Although the song is certainly one of the better sampling songs that Hintze has produced, the interest here is manageable even among the biggest Falco fans.

Change is absolut
Ordinary mind includes eternal perceptions
Stay irresponsibleStand up against governments
Decrease the distance between the temporal and the divine
Love relationships are by nature abusive
God lives within communication
We each have a need to create
And sorrow is a creative act

Keine Ruhe, keine Ruhe, keine Ruhe
Gib ihnen keine Ruhe
Leuchte ihnen nach Hause mit deiner Laterne
Dass sie schreien und weinen in Wien
Keine Ruhe, gib ihnen keine Ruhe

Note: Falco sings in the text blocks shown normally, Nick Cave, Allen Ginsberg and Ide Hintze sing in the text blocks shown in italics. The samples with Falco’s voice come from a private speaking rehearsal that Falco held in January 1995 at the Loipersdorf thermal baths.

My text version is based on the text supplements of the official releases (booklet, inlay, cover etc.), if available. However, all lyrics were tapped and corrected according to the sung word. For songs where no lyric supplements are available, my version is based solely on the sung word or also on lyrics circulating on the Internet. Text passages sung in dialect are in moderate transliteration. Spelling errors, both German and English, were corrected in glaring cases. The spelling is based partly on the spelling valid at the time (text supplements), partly on the new spelling (own interceptions). Punctuation marks have generally been omitted. I am grateful for any suggestions for improvement.
