About the song

This sampling song, made posthumously by the Bollands, Falco’s former producers, was created in 1999, at a time when the two Dutch brothers were already creating three "new" tracks (Fascinating Man, From The North To The South and We Live For The Night) out of two already existing songs (Genie Und Partisan (A Fascinating Man) and Metamorphic Rocks for the release of

(Fascinating Man, From The North To The South and We Live For The Night) out of two already existing songs (Genie Und Partisan (A Fascinating Man) and Metamorphic Rocks) for the release of the compiled album Verdammt Wir Leben Noch. A year earlier, they produced the single Tribute To Falco from the idea that excerpts from interviews and numbers from Falco could be mixed with newly composed music.

As part of this idee, they may have enjoyed producing more Falco sampling songs using this concept. Since then, these six sampling tracks (this song and also Change, Extravaganza, Just An Illusion, News York City Girls andWhere Are You Now?) have been haunting the depths of the Internet under the name “Bolland Tapes”.

It’s difficult to describe the musical level of the work: over a recording of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration speech on January 20, 1961, you can hear male choirs played backwards, mixed with a melancholic little piano melody and police sirens. Afterwards you can hear a male voice waving past with strong echo effects. Towards the end the slow drums stop and the music continues to float spherically. The musical design of this sampling track is nothing more than uninspired chaos, a finger exercise without any structure or creativity, ambient music for elevators and airports.

The samples from interviews with Falco are sparse, the Bollands use the following sentences and cut them differently to the music over the course of the song: „Ich habe ein bisschen Angst“, „Die Welt ist schlecht“, „I don’t know“. „Zweischneidig“, „Wo Licht, da Schatten“.

Of course, none of this makes any coherent sense; the Bollands probably did most of their work incorporating the word “fear” countless times in the song.

The quotes from John F. Kennedy’s speech during his inauguration in 1961 also have little meaning in combination with the Falco samples: „Let both sides unite to heed in all corners of the earth the command of Isaiah. To "undo the heavy burdens and to let the oppressed go free". Let us never negotiate out of fear but let us never fear to negotiate”.

There is also a longer mix of this sampling song that was never officially released. These sampling tracks are only available in fan circles and sometimes online.

Like all of the other Bolland sampling tracks(Change, Extravaganza, Just An Illusion, News York City Girls and Where Are You Now?) the lovelessness, the lack of authenticity and the non-existent respect for the late artist can not be topped.

Note: The samples with Falco’s voice probably come from interviews.
The sample marked * comes from a recording of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration speech, 1961.

My text version is based on the text supplements of the official releases (booklet, inlay, cover etc.), if available. However, all lyrics were tapped and corrected according to the sung word. For songs where no lyric supplements are available, my version is based solely on the sung word or also on lyrics circulating on the Internet. Text passages sung in dialect are in moderate transliteration. Spelling errors, both German and English, were corrected in glaring cases. The spelling is based partly on the spelling valid at the time (text supplements), partly on the new spelling (own interceptions). Punctuation marks have generally been omitted. I am grateful for any suggestions for improvement.
